The MassKara Festival is suppose to display the smiling faces of the people of Bacolod despite the hard times they underwent with the subsequent decline of the sugar industry in the early 1980′s. That is why this particular MassKara group caught my attention – they are the only “tribe” wearing non-smiling masks!

Something different

Golden Mask

Where is the smile?

Serious face?
But despite their “uniqueness”, this tribe wowed the crowd with their colorful costume and lively choreography. They re-defined what MassKara is all about – it is not always about happy and smiling faces.

Lively choreography

Upbeat tempo
