Pura Titra Empul: Temple of the Holy Water

Tirta Empul Temple (Pura is the Indonesian term for temple) or Tampak Siring Temple is a holy spring water temple located in Tampak Siring Village, Gianyar regency and it is about 39 km eastwards from Denpasar town.  What is interesting about this temple is that droves of locals come here to worship and foreign tourists come here to witness this unique worshiping done in the spring waters of the temple!  Needless to say, this is one of the very “commercial” temples in Bali …

The spring emerges from underneath and is believed to be holy and miraculous.  According  their  history, this water source was discovered and sanctified by King Indrajayasinghawarmadewa in the year 882 BC.  It has since then been a place of importance to all Balinese.

The whole temple complex area is huge, and so we were fortunate enough to find a secluded area where we rested and enjoyed the fine weather and the scenery around us.  There was even a small restaurant inside the temple complex that served affordable and delicious authentic Balinese dishes where we took our late lunch.

This is the last temple we visited this day. And before temple-fatigue sets in, we continued with our countryside trip by visiting a typical Balinese village.
