Frustrated that we never got the chance to photograph the famous Bagan sunset, we set our goal the following day, to chase the sunrise instead. We contracted our driver to pick us up at our hotel at 5:15AM and drive us to the best vantage point where we can capture Bagan’s sunrise.
It was pitch dark when we got to the temple where we need to climb several narrow brick stairs to get to the top. Good thing that our driver brought a flashlight and guided us up the temple. When we got to the top, we were surprised that there were two other tourists there already! And one of them, a Filipino based in Singapore! Small world indeed.
We got there in time for the first rays of sunrise … unfortunately, it was another cloudy day! We never saw the sun actually rising, but the sky slowly illuminated the fog-covered plains of Bagan. It was a sight to behold … hundreds of temples now visible across the horizon, waking up to another day as they have for the past 900 years! We sat there mesmerized and thankful.
It was a beautiful day in Bagan!
