Thiri Marlar Hotel Bagan: Our Private Oasis

The facade of the 21-bed two-storey Thiri Marlar Hotel Bagan

We have been traveling all around Asia and have stayed in different hotels, from the cheapest to the extravagant.   Our basic requirements for a good hotel include: cleanliness, good location, favorable travelers’ reviews and of course, value-for-money.

The main entrance simulating the ancient temples of Bagan.

Before our Bagan trip, the best hotel we stayed in was in Seam Reap.  But Thiri Marlar Hotel Bagan trumps this.  From ease of booking, to early check-in (9:00AM), well-appointed room, clean airy washroom with strong hot shower, free breakfast and impecable service (we always had cold face towels ready whenever we arrive from a day’s temple visit) … all for just US$23 (all inclusive) per room per night!  We L-O-V-E this hotel!

Let me show you why …

Hardwood planks for flooring in the hallway leading to the rooms.

The lobby and reception area.

The inner courtyard in the middle of the hotel. The rooms surround this green area.

Our room ... notice the california king-sized bed that can fit four adults.

The view of the room from the other end. No, there is no WiFi as internet is restricted in Myanmar.

Clean bathroom - with all basic amenities.

And did I tell you about the pièce de résistance of this Hotel, something that made us decide we want to stay here?  The rooftop.  This is where they serve breakfast every morning, overlooking some of the nearby ancient temples.  How magnificent is that? Sipping your hot freshly brewed Burmese coffee while admiring the 900 year old temples …

American breakfast with bottomless Burmese coffee is included. That's butter, lime jam and straberry jam.

This is priceless! I L-O-V-E taking my breakfast here.

Disclosure: We are not in any way connected with the Management of the Thiri Marlar Hotel Bagan.  We paid in full our entire stay in this hotel.
